We investigate the causal relationship between port congestion and containership freight rates using a structural Bayesian Vector Autoregression (BVAR) framework.
Utilizing data from 2020 to 2023, our findings demonstrate that port congestion significantly contributes to the increase in freight rates, especially in the short run.
The analysis highlights the importance of port efficiency in maintaining stable shipping costs and offers insights for policymakers and industry stakeholders seeking to mitigate supply chain disruptions.
